This year I decided to complete an Inktober. It's a challenge that sounds simple: create an ink drawing every day for the entire month of October, usually following some kind of pre-established theme, and post it on social media.
Months ago, I decided to watch the complete filmography of filmmaker Paul Verhoeven. I have absolute devotion to Robocop and Starship Troopers; I consider them masterpieces of satire, but I was unfamiliar with most of his films before and after his time in Hollywood.
When it came to choosing a theme for my Inktober, I immediately knew what to do: characters from Paul Verhoeven's films drawn in my style (that is, with my limitations). I felt it was important that the theme really motivated me so I could approach each daily drawing with enthusiasm. I think I nailed both the theme and the result.
Below I show you the 31 cartoons from my Verhoevinktober 2024. All of them drawn in pencil, inked with a Pentel refillable brush and painted with liquid watercolor —a different color for each film—.

October only has 31 days, and Paul Verhoeven's filmography offers plenty more to explore. Perhaps I'll draw more characters in the future. I certainly want to.
